Generational Disease
Growing up in a dysfunctional home affects millions of people each day. Many adults who were abused as children do not know the abuse affects them today. They know that they just feel 'different' from other adults. The disease of alcoholism is a generational disease that affects each generation. The person doesn't have to pick up a bottle of alcohol to be affected by the disease. The drinking is only one part of the disease. Taking away the alcohol there are still the behaviors that come with the disease. I have learned this by being a part of two support groups alanon and adult children of alcoholics (acoa or aca). Al anon is for friends, family. acoa/aca is for adult children who grew up in dysfunctional/alc0holic homes.
